In a mainstream media crossover, a news post about Taylor Swift and Ice Spice prompted One Piece fans to flood its comment section with Luffy images.
In an odd crossover of mainstream media, One Piece fans flooded the story’s comment area with pictures of the well-known anime pirate Monkey D. Luffy in response to a recent news piece about Taylor Swift and Ice Spice.
Fans of Taylor Swift flooded the comment section of a famous Instagram page with memes and references to the series after the singer’s name was mentioned in passing in a news piece. This was done using the Everything Out Of Context X (previously Twitter) account. The news article and video, titled “Ice Spice Reveals the One Piece of Advice Taylor Swift Gave Her,” are shown to readers below. Taylor Swift said, “No matter what, just keep making music and everything’s going to be alright,” for the record.
Fans of One Piece are by no means the only anime enthusiasts to take over a comment section on a piece that has nothing to do with them. When NASA’s Johnson Space Center posted a picture of the night sky over Japan to wish the public a happy new year early in 2024, fans of Jujutsu Kaisen noticed how strikingly the sight resembled Shibuya from the opening scene of Season 2, “SPECIALZ.” Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen were motivated by this to take over the NASA post with an abundance of remarks that said, “You are my Specialz!”
Similar to this, One Piece is scheduled to take over the airwaves for the remainder of the year, beginning on May 5, 2024, Luffy’s special birthday. Large inflated balloons will be launched simultaneously across major European towns by Toei Animation Europe. Crunchyroll has revealed that a number of One Piece episodes, including the well-known Gear 5 episode, will be released on the platform on the same day.
One Piece is streamed by Crunchyroll, which says the following about it: “Monkey D. Luffy is determined to become the king of all pirates, and he will not allow anything or anybody get in his way.” This captain will not let up until he has taken possession of the greatest treasure on Earth—the fabled One Piece—with a course set toward the perilous waters of the Grand Line and beyond.” Viz Media has a license to publish the first and continuing volumes of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga in North America.
