Reds to pounce on stumbling hosts
Aston Villa has had an incredible season under Unai Emery. Depending on how fifth-place Tottenham plays Burnley on Saturday afternoon, they could already be assured of a top-four finish and Champions League football for the following season by the time they start off on Monday.
But as the campaign comes to an end, the Villans seem to be tripping over the line. They had only managed one point from their previous two Premier League games, and after losing to Olympiakos both at home and away, they were eliminated from the Europa Conference League final.
Villa’s matchup with Liverpool, who appear to have overcome their own recent downturn after defeating Tottenham last weekend, may still be healing from their 2-0 loss in Greece on Thursday.
With eight wins and just one loss in his ten league games versus Villa, Jurgen Klopp has a strong record against them. This will be his farewell game in the Reds dugout. That one loss, in October 2020, at an empty Villa Park, was a memorable 7-2 setback.
With Villa having scored in seven of their last eight Premier League games and Liverpool having failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their previous nine league games, there should be goals in Monday’s matchup as well, but it would be preferable for the Reds to take all three points.
Villa vs. Aston Villa First tip: use bet365 to back Liverpool to win and both teams to score at +155.
Salah to get Liverpool up and running
Although most people agree that Mohamed Salah, the forward for Liverpool, has struggled recently, the Egyptian striker looked to be back to his best after scoring and dishing out an assist against Tottenham the other night.
With that goal, Salah’s season total for goals scored in all competitions now stands at 25, and he can still add to it against Villa, a team he has liked playing against over the years.
In his ten career games against the West Midlands giants, Salah has netted seven goals. He also scored the first goal in the comparable matchup between the two teams last season, which finished in a 3-1 win for Liverpool.
It would not be surprising to see Salah, who is fifth on Liverpool’s all-time best scorer list, break the deadlock at Villa Park given that the 31-year-old’s past two goals, against Spurs and Atalanta, have both been opening goals.
Liverpool vs. Aston Villa Tip 2: Mohamed Salah will open the scoring at +400 with bet365
Elliott’s numbers improving
Harvey Elliott has only scored four goals and provided six assists in 72 Premier League games for Liverpool, so he has never been a particularly prolific goal contributor, but his production has been increasing.
The 21-year-old had four shots in the 4-2 victory at Anfield last weekend against Tottenham, in addition to scoring a goal and providing an assist.
Elliott has now had over three shots on goal in four league games. Given that he is playing for Liverpool, who have had more shots than any other club in the top division this season, he should be able to repeat that performance against Villa.
Bet365’s Aston Villa vs. Liverpool tip three is Harvey Elliott’s three or more shots at +180.
